Tips for Exercising with Hearing Aids

Exercising is beneficial in so many ways, so don’t skip out if you have hearing aids! We gathered some tips for exercising with hearing aids.

#1: Secure Your Hearing Aids

Many people with hearing aids find that close-fitting caps or headbands help to secure their hearing aids during these activities. In addition, hearing aid clips or lanyards will prevent your hearing aids from getting lost, should they fall out. Most clips feature a lightweight lanyard that attaches to the hearing instrument on one end and clips to your clothing on the other.

#2: Minimize Moisture

During exercise, watch out for excessive moisture or perspiration, which can damage your hearing aid. While many hearing aids are designed to resist moisture, this doesn’t make them completely immune to corrosion or bacterial growth. However, by wearing a sweatband or covering your hearing aids with sweat covers, you can reduce the amount of moisture your hearing aids are exposed to.

#3: Take Good Care of Your Hearing Aids

  • Clean and inspect your hearing aids daily. Remove the earwax and debris carefully with a wax pick. Force moisture from the tubing with a puffer and dry overnight.

  • Invest in a hearing aid dehumidifier. These inexpensive devices remove moisture and sanitize hearing aids and cochlear implants. They are also a safe place to store them while you sleep!
