Do I Have Hearing Loss?

Hearing loss is the third most common physical condition after arthritis and heart disease. Approximately 48 million Americans report some degree of hearing loss.

Unfortunately, hearing loss is an invisible condition. We see only the effects. In most cases, hearing loss cannot be reversed. That's why it's imperative to be aware of the signs, seek appropriate care and utilize the advanced technology offered today. Trust us when we say that the first call to an audiologist can be life-changing! We have gathered some signs of hearing loss. If you have any of these signs or symptoms, you may have hearing loss:

  1. Speech and other sounds seem muffled

  2. Trouble hearing high-pitched sounds (e.g., birds, doorbell, telephone, alarm clock)

  3. Trouble understanding conversations when you are in a noisy place, such as a restaurant

  4. Trouble understanding speech over the phone

  5. Trouble hearing speech consonants (e.g., trouble hearing the difference between s and f, p and t, or between sh and th in speech)

  6. Asking others to speak more slowly and clearly

  7. Asking someone to speak more loudly or repeat what they said

  8. Turning up the volume of the television or radio

  9. Ringing in the ears

  10. Hypersensitivity to certain sounds (certain sounds are very bothersome or create pain)

Not sure if you're ready or even need to make that first appointment? Our hearing questionnaire has been adapted from a self-assessment tool created by the American Academy of Otolaryngology. Please take the time to answer each question as accurately as possible. We will receive your information, email your results, and help you determine if a hearing test is necessary.

If you're interested in seeing one of our audiologists, please fill out our appointment request form, and we'll be in touch soon!
